Three people are injured in shooting in parking lot of Six Flags

Three people were injured in a drive-by parking lot shooting of an amusement park near on Sunday night after the gunman fired ‚multiple times‘ and left dozens of guests scrambling for safety.

Park, city and state authorities responded to the scene about 7:50 p.m.

after 911 calls reporting shots fired at Six Flags Great America, located 45 miles north of Chicago. 

According to police, a white sedan entered the parking lot and drove toward the park’s front entrance before the ‚targeted‘ attack.

An unknown number of people got out of the car and shot at another person in the parking lot before driving away, in what police described as ‚not a random act.‘ 

A 17-year-old boy from Aurora, Illinois, had a thigh wound and a 19-year-old woman from Appleton, Wisconsin, had a leg wound, police said. 

Both of the gunshot victims were transported to the hospital with ‚non-life threatening injuries.‘

A third victim, whose information was not released, declined medical treatment after the incident.

Witnesses say the three victims were shot outside the front entrance to the park.

According to early police reports, officers say the incident appears to be a ‚targeted incident,‘ not an active shooter.

No arrests have been made and no information on the suspects have been given.

Additional details about the suspects, including the number of people who fired shots, were not immediately released.

The incident comes less than a week after CEO Selim Bassoul says the company’s parks have become a ‚cheap day care center for teenagers.‘

The statement came amid an 18 percent decline in share prices and a 22 percent decline in attendance at the world’s largest theme park operator from a year ago.

Six Flags employs more than 52,000 seasonal employees and 2,100 full-time at their 30 North American parks.

Gurnee is in Lake County, about 5 miles south of the Wisconsin border.

It’s about 20 miles north of Highland Park, where seven people died and 48 were wounded in a mass shooting during a July Fourth parade earlier this year.
