The channel agreed a deal with Amazon Prime to show ‚s historic final against fellow teenager Leylah Fernandez on free-to-air TV in the UK.
But as viewers tuned in on Channel 4 HD, they were met with silence from the studio.

Some shared their frustrations on Twitter, joking that the broadcaster had neglected to agree a deal for the sound.
One person wrote: ‚Channel 4 lawyers furiously reading the small print in their US Open final coverage for tonight.
Sound seemingly not part of the deal.‘

A Channel 4 spokesman told MailOnline: ‚There was a brief problem with audio due to tech issues but it was resolved very quickly and didn’t impact coverage of the actual match itself.‘
It was announced earlier today that Raducanu’s shot at US Open glory would be available to watch for Britons on free-to-air TV.
The 18-year-old has captivated the nation with her exploits in New York and she took on Fernandez in the showpiece event and became the first British woman to win a grand slam in 44 years.

Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service has had exclusive broadcast rights in this country for the final grand slam of the year, but has agreed a deal – understood by the PA news agency to be seven figures – for the match to be shown on both Prime Video and Channel 4, maximising the viewing potential for one of the biggest sporting stories of the year.
And it has pledged to reinvest that money into British women’s tennis to help fund the next generation of players.

Oliver Dowden, secretary of state for culture, media and sport, praised the deal.
