Tens of thousands of comic book fans flock to London Comic Con

It’s the only place where Spiderman, the Powerpuff Girls, the Joker and hordes of bloodthirsty zombies can safely be in the same room together.

Tens of thousands of comic book fans, dressed immaculately as their favourite characters, descended on London for the first day of MCM Comic Con today.

The bi-annual event has grown every year since it took off in the 2000s and more than 130,000 are expected to walk through the doors of the Excel centre in east over the weekend.

Comic Con spokesman Gary Burns believes the three-day event would ‚eclipse‘ the world-famous United States Comic Cons if it ran longer, but that could detract from the magic of the UK convention.

He told MailOnline: ‚We get people from all over Europe and you’ll definitely hear some north American accents.

People like the conventions over here.

‚The cosplay side is more diverse here, and that doesn’t really permeate the US market that much.

Over there, it’s mostly just DC and Marvel characters.‘
